Just a quick post to say that I've had a few problems with spam comments on my blog since I took OFF the word verification earlier this week (after Blogger made it REALLY hard with two Captcha words that were super-difficult to read), so I am now going to TRY moderating all comments for a bit and see how that works.
But I DO love hearing from you so PLEASE don't think I'm ignoring you. I'm just ignoring the silly spammers.
So please bear with me if your comments might sometimes take a while to appear.....it probably means I'm taking a nap.

I certainly understand. My spam filter catches almost all of my spam, but I still need to empty it and it always surprises me how much there is. Looking at that sweet picture of Winnie...I would be taking alot of naps.
Hey Winnie,
Have you tried setting it up so that comments can only come from registered users. In other words, no anonymous comments. I never receive spam and I think this is why.
Your pal, Pip
Hey Pip! That's a good idea. I wasn't sure if allowing comments by 'registered users' only I might be excluding anyone who I'd want to comment, but I guess if someone new finds my blog and tries to comment it will tell them to register? If it works for you that sounds good to me.
I might try that next. Thanks xx
I don't think those word captchas are that bad.... I've seen worse :P
Winnie Sweetie I am sooooo very much sorry that you have gotten that SPAM stuffs. Pip's advice is really spot on.
Waiting fur comments to come up is SOOOO much better than having to type those Wacky Words. Just don't miss any naps over it. OK!!
Don`t worry Winnie! At an old blog we had this problem, but we got it fixed by taking off the anonymus comments.
Okie Dokie!
If only people would just behave! But no problem about the capchas : ) Have a nice nap, Winnie!
OK, going to go back in to my setting and try making it so that only registered users can comment. Let me know folks if it causes you any problems.
Clever title! :) I had a nice long comment from Ugg Boots this morning. But I hate word veri, especially the two word version they switched to recently... it was so hard to read! Maybe I'll try the registered user idea some of your readers have suggested.
Naps are good...Spam is good too butt only when it comes out of a can!
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with spammers.
Nice photo!
I have always moderated my comments before letting them get posted.
Must admit that the two word verification is sometimes difficult to read.
Sorry to hear about the spammers...We wish they'd just go back to the old verification words...if they have to have them.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Naps rule, rude spammers drool!
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
Naps are important, Winnie, so take as many as you would like!
Winnie, who would spam you? You're too precious and fantastic for anything like that. Happy snoozing!
Happy seeing beautiful!

We had the same problem--lots of emails in Russian. My mom considered moderating, too, if it gets worse.
love & wags,
River
oh no, we turned ours off too...hope no buddy does nothin to us. The new word verification is frightening

I used to have a really hard time, in general, reading CAPTCHAs. I've mysteriously gotten better at it.
Love the sleepy dog picture ;)
We had spam! Unless it comes in a can, then it's pretty tasty in an omelet! Mom has had trouble with spammers on her small blog and did the same thing you did.

We switched to using Intense Debate for our comments for that very reason...SO MUCH SPAM! Blogger doesn't handle it very well at all. I'm jazzed you got rid of the word verification though. I hate those things and 99.9% of the time, I click away too fast and end up losing my comment!
I hope you get the spam thing straightened out. Those spammers are really annoying.
Hi, Winnie! I always wonder why spammers have so much free time :)
i completely understand your pain! the different commenting functions and plug-ins can be really really cool and really really annoying.
