Frankie came to call

Frankie came to visit today - with the Lady Of The House's friend Alyson.

Frankie can be rather hyper, but a lot of the time these days she is calming down and being a good girl.

She made herself at home straight away today - which was nice.

Frankie is a cross-breed, but we are not sure what dogs are in Frankie's family tree. Alyson gave her a forever home when she was a puppy at the RSPCA.

Frankie is very, very tough on toys and can destroy anything is a matter of minutes. She has lots and lots of energy and she is very clever and can be obedient when she wants to be - but sometimes she just won't do what she's told and she can very very excited.

Anyone got any thoughts what kind of dogs might be in her make-up?

Hope you have fun with your friends and family this weekend. I will be having a weekend off from blogging as the Girl Of The House comes home tonight for four days and it's her 21st birthday on Tuesday. So we've got lots of fun things to do. See you next week.

Going going gone in the garden

I thought it would be a great idea to go tazzing round the back garden lawn this afternoon having one of my mad five minutes.

Then, for no good reason, the ground decided to fly from beneath my nimble feet and I found myself lying on the muddy grass.

I was fine and trotted over to be cleaned up by the Man Of The House.

The Lady Of The House decided to take this pic of me looking a bit smug, and blurry, afterwards.

She thinks it looks 'arty' I just think she's not so good at taking photos.

The L O T H also went to meet the nice people at the RSPCA centre in our village this afternoon to tell them a bit about what she's doing (and she says I got a mention too). They do some great work finding new forever homes for pets and giving advice on how to keep us happy and healthy.

Fargo goes far thanks to the RSPCA

Here's a nice happy tale to round off the week.

The RSPCA officially opened a new animal centre in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, this week - and one of the guests was this gorgeous dog called Fargo.

Fargo was one of the first residents at the £2million Felledge Animal Centre after he was found emaciated and covered in sores. 

Now, as you can see, he's a picture of health and happily settled in with a new forever family who say they can't imagine life without him. So they all headed back to Felledge for the official opening ceremony.

Now, if you ask me, Fargo and his family should have done the honours of declaring the centre open, but apparently that job was taken by former Coronation Street star, actor and singer Adam Rickitt.

Adam played Nick Tilsley (some time before I started watching Corrie with MY new forever family) and is a BIG dog lover.....so I'll let him off for taking the limelight- and I'm sure he didn't upstage Fargo.

A treat of a day

Today I took a stroll - on my lead of course - to the 6th annual companion dog show held by Derwent Valley Dog Club in aid of the RSPCA Burton Branch.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes and types were entering obedience and breed classes as well as novelty classes - like "The dog the judges would most like to take home".

The Nottingham branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust were among those who had stands at the show. Those RGT people never seem to stop! It's so great that people work so hard to show what great pets greyhounds make.

I didn't enter anything....but I might try next weekend at the Great Greyhound Gathering - but more of that later this week.

The Lady Of The House did buy me some treats from The Dog Bakery - home-baked with all natural ingredients, no preservatives, colouring, added salt or added sugar. Looking forward to giving them a try.

Friday the 13th!

So, it's Friday the 13th then? The kind of day to make any superstitious dog stay put in their snuggly warm bed rather than risking putting a paw outside.

Unlucky for some if you are superstitious

Fortunately I'm not superstitious. Though I may have had a bit of a nightmare this morning as I woke the Lady Of The House up at 7am crying a little...then again it might have been the smell of the killer chilli the Man Of The House made last night which is still wafting around through all of downstairs. Whatever, I happily nodded off again for an hour or so after a reassuring word.

But I realise that not all dogs are as lucky as me. I was hearing the other day about a nice lady in Staffordshire who fosters animals for the RSPCA while they wait for new homes.

Jacqui Hood already provides a lovely permanent home for greyhound Dizzee Rascal, greyhound-cross Floyd and whippet-cross Ruby, but now she's even opened up her home to foster other pets, even CATS!! Not sure I completely approve....but, hey, cats are animals too. Live and let live.
