Monkey day 4
What an exciting walk we had this morning. So much to see and hear.
Not only was it bin day - but the Boy Of The House (BOTH) and the Girl Of The House (GOTH) were back at school after the Easter holiday break. I know - a bit mean having to go back in the middle of the week – the BOTH as pupil and the GOTH in her role as a teaching assistant.
The structure of the days so far has been preparing for this - with get-ups, toilet, walks and breakfast being arranged to fit around the rest of the Pritchard pack. What can I say, it worked perfectly. Monkey slotted in without a murmur.
The main concern was how the walk would go as we were timing it so there would be a lot of the BOTH’s schoolmates coming and going as the term started and we could see how the activity affected Monkey.
He was very alert with a spring in his step as he took in all the people bustling about. The traffic also seems to engage him as his head is all over the place looking and listening. He is a little anxious with the cars but not in a way that puts him off his stride and I’m sure with a few more walks Monkey will soon relegate the traffic noise to the background as we all have learned to do. He also got to meet Winnie’s old friend the crossing patrol lady.
Back home the cheese was used to encourage breakfast and also to help as we try to move his bowl out of the front room towards, and finally, into the kitchen.
Quieter afternoon walk. Passed a Labrador without too much fuss. It feels as though Monkey wants to make friends rather than cause trouble but with the muzzle on other owners, quite rightly, hold their dogs back or even cross the road.
Monkey decided to have his dinner closer to him. My fault. I'd put dinner by the door as I did this morning but came back to the room to try to get a picture so Monkey thought he'd sit back down on his bed.

In training for the Olympics
Oh! It HAS been busy round here you know.
The Lady Of The House has been busy helping people with words for their websites and running some media training and all sorts.
Meanwhile, I'VE been in training for the Pet Blogging Games But I've been SO busy practising for all the events that I've nearly missed the entry deadlines.
So I'm off now to do all my entries.
(Here's a sneak preview of me practising for the opening ceremony and the parade of athletes. I've got to work a bit more on my flag co-ordination I think.)

Winnebago checking in
So, what's been happening?
Well, thanks to Sarge's Nickname game I am Winnebago for the next week.
Secondly, the Lady Of The House has a truly STINKING cold and is coughing and sneezing EVERYWHERE! YUCK!
But she still took me to the greyhound walk that was organised by Perry Barr Retired Greyhound Trust in Burton-on-Trent yesterday.
I got to wear the Winnie the Pooh bandana she bought me at Crufts.
Now maybe it was that, or maybe it was the steroids I've been on since last autumn, but I got very feisty with the dogs gathered outside the library in town and barked at ANY hound that looked at me.
The LOTH was bundled up in a big grey waterproof and her pink scarf and got totalk croak to her friend Jane (in the green coat) who came along with her two greyhounds Jack and Sophie.
I got a bit friendlier when we started walking. The Man Of The House walked with me and the LOTH took charge of Jack. But a few of the hounds weren't too keen when the walk included a few steps.
Jack and one other greyhound had to be carried up. But I was fine.
We also met up with Rolo Hound - who the LOTH has tweeted with but never met before.
Rolo's dad and my MOTH were showing off their matching backpacks from Pedigree - part of the Play Again campaign for JointCare+
Rather than make this post too long I'll share my other news about the lovely Ann from Zoolatry and how she has helped us another day.

Tasty Tuesday - It's an ice ice day today
Back in March you may remember my post I Scream for Ice Cream for Dogs.
The Lady Of The House had been to Crufts and found out about the launch of a new iced dessert specially for dogs. We were very excited as our American blogging friends had told us about doggy ice cream and we'd never seen any for sale over here in England.
Well, recently when we visited the website for this new product - Billy+Margot - we learned that it was now being stocked at a branch of the Kennelgate pet store just down the road from us. So the LOTH hotfooted it down there and bought a tub of apple, banana and carrot flavour - with her very own money - for me to try.
This is my honest opinion:
I think you can probably tell that I really loved it.
They didn't let me have too much in one go.BECAUSE THEY ARE MEAN PEOPLE! Because it is always sensible to proceed slowly when introducing a new food to dogs - especially to a greyhound.
It was a nice experience to eat it while the Man Of The House held it for me and I hope there will be some more sunny weather soon so we can try some outside on a warm sunny day.
I am also continuing to enjoy a tasty treat a day courtesy of the trial of JointCare+ treats from Pedigree. I look forward to my one-a-day treat and know that it's good for my hard-working joints.

I'm ready for my close-up
The Lady Of The House has been getting to grips with the video camera loaned to her by Pedigree as part of the trial of their new Joint Care+ treats.
Once she got the technology sussed, she thought it would be an easy matter to get me to gallop around the garden in my usual style. But, frankly, I felt this was a little undignified, and took a bit of persuading. Besides, I like squeaking my toys.... a lot.
I love the camera - but I thought maybe I should get the chance to gaze into the lens and pose a little.
A close-up would be nice, Mrs Director.
The Girl of the House thought she'd finally persuaded me to get involved. But I wasn't going to jump around for long.
Eventually I decided to co-operate and if you want to see the final version, you can see it on my Facebook Page. It's called A Mad Few Minutes in the Garden. You can probably guess why.

It's Cat-urday on Winnie's Dog Blog
Got a few pieces of cat-related news so I thought I'd put them all together.
The first one is, I wanted to share this lovely picture of a cat called Ernie, drawn by the Lady Of The House's talented friend Jane West.
Ernie was a much loved cat all the way over in California, but after he passed away his owners found the page on the LOTH's pet bereavement website where Jane offers to do drawings and they commissioned a sketch. They said it was a really good likeness and they will always treasure it. I'm so pleased it's helped them.
Staying with news from America, The Zoolatry Girls have made me aware that next Saturday it's Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for May 5) which is marked across the United States as a day to celebrate Mexican heritage. Everyone is invited to celebrate on their blogs and cats AND dogs can connect up and add their blogs to the Cat Blogosphere (very kind of them I think).
Thank you also, Zoolatry Girls, for sharing this lovely badge (left). Any ideas for how I can celebrate here in Burton-on-Trent will be welcomed from my friends overseas.
Do you remember my cousin Mickey cat? He's 21 now and feeling a bit fragile so I wondered if you could all send him your good wishes? He sleeps a lot now (like this picture shows) but he means the world to the LOTH's mum and although I am not allowed to be in the same room as him (because of my natural inclinations towards cats) I do love him really.

Apart from other pet blogs it was the website for Quad, Derby's centre for film and the arts because I wanted to know if well-behaved dogs might be able to go to any of their great summer nights film screenings (actually, I may let the People Of The House go on their own and I'll snooze at home because I don't really watch films or TV)

I'd like to be a bit braver and more sociable with other dogs. We're all working on it together, slowly.

The LOTH bought the GOTH a slanket one Christmas. I prefer my big cuddly quilt-y bed.

Pearl came from a rescue where they said she was a pointer/lab mix but I agree with her folks that she probably has greyhound blood in her too. She's certainly beautiful enough and apparently she's a great runner.
