MOTH proves he's a 'fun guy' on our walks

Woke up this morning to find it was snowing again.

Hope it doesn't get worse as the Boy Of The House has an exciting afternoon planned tomorrow. He's been invited to be a mascot for our local football team Burton Albion who are through to the next round of the FA Cup against Middlesbrough.

Anyway, the Man Of The House had been keeping an eye on the weather forecast and had said all week that there would be snow today. So with him being off work this week we've been on some nice longer-than-usual walks around our home.

It's also given him a chance to try out his new camera that he had for Christmas. So I thought I'd share some of his shots with you today.
I'm on this pic so naturally it's one of my favourites

We were up early enough to catch the sunrise one morning this week

This is the weir at an area called Brook Hollows about a mile from our house

I think the MOTH is a "fun guy" and that's why I like this photo he took!

Santa sent more snow

Last night was very exciting in our house (this is by OUR standards of course).

There was a knock at the door, and then the Lady Of The House, The Man Of The House, The Girl Of The House and even the Boy Of The House started a rather embarrassing scrabble around the house for coins to give to the people at the door.

I wondered what was going on, and then I could hear music and bells.

The MOTH found some money in the end, and then the LOTH popped my lead on and took me outside.....and guess what??? It was Santa on his sleigh!! His voice was booming out saying "Just four sleeps and I'll be back soon to see you all!!"

There weren't any reindeer though so I'm not sure how his sleigh was moving but it was covered in lights and I could see him really clearly and he WAVED AT ME!!

Then his sleigh started to turn around outside our house (because there's no more road) and there were children outside getting all excited and I heard Santa boom: "Mind the car children.... I mean, THE SLEIGH".

Then he was gone and we went back inside.

But this morning when I woke up there was snow everywhere. Me and the LOTH walked down to the village. I kept stopping to smell all the smells. I kept sticking my head in bushes and getting snow on my head.

A nice lady waiting at a bus stop said to the LOTH: "AAahhh! He needs little boots on". Which would have been a nice thing to say if I had been a boy. (But she wasn't to know with my big coat on).

But I'm fine and it's actually warmer than it has been in a funny sort of way.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Monkey madness

Oh the sheer joy of life!! Sometimes there's nothing a girl can do except zoom about in the back garden with her favourite toy and turn him into a little snowman.

Monkey and me played in the snow and it was great fun!!!

Snowy nose

Look! I stuck my nose out of the back door and got a snowflake on it.

Snowflake on my nose
I have skipped out in my BIG winter coat today for a morning walk, but once I get in the warm I'm crossing my legs and not bothering about going out into the garden much before my afternoon walk.

The Lady Of The House keeps chewing at me though, because I do like to stretch my legs and go to the back door. So she opens it for me and I stand there in the doorway gazing out on my territory.

"Either go out or come in," says the L O T H. "You are letting all the warm air out, Winnie."

But I like to take my time and stand there with my body in the way so she can't close the door again in a hurry.

I like to stand there looking wistful and thoughtful and letting the snow land on my nose.

Now, if I see one of those cheeky squirrels, I'll be out there like a flash.

Clamp's cat?

Before I launch in to today's blog post proper, here's a picture of me frolicking in the snow in the garden this morning. I wanted to build my own snowman and so I started digging.

But then I decided it was more fun to taz around and do some zoomies. Also, because I run fast my paws are only in contact with the snow for milli-seconds so they don't get so cold as when I'm digging.

Look!! I was SOOOOO fast the Lady Of The House couldn't capture all of me on camera!!

Anyway, this morning wasn't all fun and games. I also had a bit of a disappointment.

Me and the L O T H put our coats on and got ready for our walk. It turned out that the L O T H wanted something out of the car....but when she unlocked the passenger side I thought we were going out in it and I got my feet on the seat and was wiggling my bum like crazy to get in. The L O T H was saying something but I wasn't taking any notice.

It turned out of course that when she'd got what she needed out of the glove compartment I had to get out because the car wasn't going anywhere.

I tried to convince her that we should still go out in the car because I LOOOOOVE it....but she said the roads were too risky at the moment. But I still stood there hopefully and it took a while to persuade me to reverse. Then, when she shut the car door, snow fell off the car roof and on to my head. Bah!

I didn't mind REALLY though because we had a nice walk after that. The sun came out and the sky was clear of clouds and there was a lovely blue tinge to all the snow. (Some bits also had a yellow tinge when I'd finished....if you know what I mean).

Anyway, the L O T H - Derbyshire born and bred - is full of daft sayings from years ago in her family....and she told me that I looked like "Clamp's Cat" when we didn't get inside the car.

You know how I feel about cats....so I wasn't best pleased.

Apparently, it's a saying they use in Derbyshire when someone thinks something nice is going to happen and then they are disappointed.

I'll never understand humans.

Snowy day

Setting out for first walk in the snow
In eight years of life I have encountered snow before, but today was my first day of striding about in the white stuff with my new family.

I wasn't going to let it put me off my walks, and I had a good gambol about in the garden kicking my heels and behaving like a big kid generally.

Well, you have to do, don't you? It's compulsory when snow falls.

The Lady Of The House has been out and about a lot today doing various worthy but dull (in my opinion) things, and the Boy Of The House is still recovering from flu. He's obviously not right yet as he turned down a trip to watch the new Harry Potter film this afternoon followed by tea at Frankie and Benny's.

But I've had a nice day and I'm going to settle down for a snooze now while they watch Derby County playing football on the television.
